We're looking for an experienced Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer to join Stats NZ on a fixed-term basis and play a key role in shaping and supporting our Microsoft cloud environment. Based in Wellington, this senior technical position combines cloud engineering, automation, platform operations, security, and technical leadership across a modern cloud-first organisation.

Working across Microsoft 365, Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Purview, Azure Databricks, and related cloud technologies, you'll help design, deliver, and continuously improve secure, resilient, and well-governed cloud services. You'll work closely with security, architecture, and operational teams to support strategic initiatives while providing hands-on expertise that strengthens our cloud platforms and enhances the way Stats NZ works.

What you bring | Nōu te rourou     

• Significant experience designing, implementing, and supporting Microsoft 365 and Azure cloud services
• Strong expertise in Microsoft Entra ID, identity and access management, and cloud security
• Experience implementing governance, compliance, information protection, and security controls across enterprise cloud environments
• Advanced PowerShell scripting and automation skills, with a focus on improving operational efficiency and service reliability
• Strong understanding of cloud operations, incident management, troubleshooting, and continuous service improvement
• Experience working with DevOps practices, Infrastructure as Code (including Terraform), infrastructure automation, and cloud platform administration.
• Ability to contribute to cloud architecture, standards, roadmaps, and strategic technology initiatives
• Proven technical leadership skills, including mentoring and supporting other engineers
• Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams
• A passion for building secure, reliable, and future-focused cloud platforms that deliver real organisational value
• We highly value demonstrated competency in mātauranga Māori, tikanga, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi application in a workplace setting. To support this work, proficiency in te reo Māori, or a strong commitment to developing te reo Māori capability, is welcomed.

Starting salary for this position: $97,270 - $131,601 + kiwisaver
