Senior Advisor Operations at Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children, Canterbury

Mō te tūnga | About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Operations Advisor sitting within our Māori, Partnerships and Communities group. You will be responsible for key programmes, work and activities that enable the smooth running of Māori, Partnerships and Communities. You will be tracking, analysing, and providing advice on the Ministry's policy and operational issues.

Key areas of focus will be:

  • Be the key point of contact for our National Office into Regional Māori, Partnerships and Communities
  • Support Regional Manager by leading, writing and monitoring the development of the Regional Business Plan
  • Leading the implementation of specific projects within the Business Plan and monitoring overall delivery and performance of the plan, including escalation to Regional Manager and through Oranga Tamariki as appropriate
  • Manage the workflow, and/or the responses to parliamentary questions, Select Committee responses, official information requests and Ministerial correspondence
  • Contributing, where required, to the development and investment of Māori, Partnerships and Communities plan for key work, and any other projects requiring Senior Advisor support

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

Your excellent communication skills will enable you to engage with stakeholders and build strong partnerships. You will also bring:

  • Extensive experience in working in the social/health/education sectors in the coordination or delivery of social services
  • Demonstrated ability to support and influence outcomes when working with virtual teams
  • Knowledge and/or experience of contemporary issues in social services delivery
  • Comprehensive experience in social service contracting, planning and performance reporting as well as an understanding of contracting support roles and social sector investment
  • Experience managing high level communication, OIA writing memos and budgets
  • Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural issues and concerns, in particular, knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
  • Sound understanding of governance arrangements and the public sector context within which Oranga Tamariki works including key issues affecting the social service environment
