Engineering Information Management Advisor at Transpower New Zealand Limited, Wellington

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

  • Bring your engineering drawing and document control expertise
  • Work with unique national infrastructure information and systems
  • Help enable a more sustainable energy future for New Zealand

Transpower is New Zealand's Grid Owner and System Operator. Our purpose is to empower the energy future for New Zealand by enabling a reliable, secure electricity system and a net-zero carbon economy.

Our Enterprise Information Management team provides information and records management governance across Transpower. We manage the corporate information framework, document management systems, controlled documents, technical engineering drawings and models, photos and multimedia, and offsite storage. As a public office, the Public Records Act 2005 is integral to our practices.

The scale and variety of our engineering information is significant: more than 750,000 CAD drawings, terabytes of 3D models and point clouds, and more than two million photos and videos. This role works with information that directly supports the planning, delivery, operation, and maintenance of New Zealand's national grid.

The opportunity – due to internal promotion!

We're looking for an Engineering Information Management Advisor to join our specialist Enterprise Information Management team and help ensure critical engineering information is controlled, easy to find, secure and trusted.

Working across systems that support drawings, models, and multimedia assets, you will apply sound information management practice and judgement to manage data quality, support system performance, and uphold governance standards. Platforms include RedEye, ProjectWise, Recollect and PLS-CADD.

As a custodian of engineering information, you'll partner with engineers, Grid Development and Grid Delivery teams, Digital Engineering, Operations, service providers, consultants, and other external parties. You'll provide practical advice and build capability through training, coaching, and support.

Your work will include managing engineering information systems, applying disciplined versioning and metadata practices, undertaking quality assurance, identifying data and process issues, and supporting practical improvements to systems, processes, and information quality.

Who do we need?

You'll be a diligent, pragmatic information professional who is comfortable in an engineering environment. You combine strong quality assurance and judgement with the ability to build trusted relationships, explain technical concepts clearly and help others work confidently with complex information.

To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:

  • Demonstrated document and drawing control experience within an engineering environment, including effective use of engineering information systems and platforms
  • Strong quality assurance and judgement skills, with a focus on information accuracy, completeness, and security
  • Practical understanding of version control, metadata integrity, and information governance
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including practical guidance, coaching and training
  • Ability to combine technical knowledge and business context to improve systems, processes, and data value
  • A tertiary qualification in CAD/BIM or similar, or equivalent relevant experience

While not essential, any of the following would be advantageous:

  • working knowledge of ISO 19650, Bentley ProjectWise, PLS-CADD, or Autodesk products
  • understanding of engineering drawings and drafting standards, and the drawing design lifecycle
  •  a qualification in information management, engineering or an electrical industry-related field.
