Manager - Procurement Excellence at Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities , Wellington

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

  • 24 month fixed term contract
  • Auckland or Wellington location with flexible working encouraged
  • Rate of pay is $180,887 plus 5 weeks annual leave an a suite of free insurances

Kāinga Ora is looking to evolve and innovate our procurement approaches and is looking for a commercially savvy relationship builder that thinks strategically about how we can do things differently.  If you love change, approach procurement always wondering how things can be done better and are keen to make a difference - this role could be right for you.

 

Our next Manager Procurement Excellence will work closely with Procurement Leadership peers to deliver innovation, reduce our administrative overheads and drive change.  The role will further develop Procurement frameworks across policy, people, process, and platforms, driving right-sized best practice and standards to optimise the performance of Kāinga Ora across the procurement lifecycle and build commercial excellence at Kāinga Ora.

 

You will be accountable for policy development, internal procurement training, analysis, internal and external reporting coordination, and Kāinga Ora procurement's web presence (internet and intranet). You will also be responsible for leading procurement innovation working closely with the Director Procurement and Supplier Management, senior procurement team members and the wider procurement team and the ongoing maturity of supplier performance management.

 

Most importantly, this role is about leading and achieving through people. This role includes leading our procurement support team and supporting the development of your direct reports and the Procurement team.   Whilst you'll manage and be responsible for the work that your team delivers and the interactions with internal and external parties, this role is about leading and to be successful in the role, you will need to bring your "A" leadership game, and live Kāinga Ora values every day.

Qualifications

  • Required - Tertiary qualification in business management or relevant experience
  • Required - MCIPS or equivalent experience and knowledge of procurement concepts, methodologies and practices

Skills, knowledge and experience

  • Ten or more years in procurement and/or commercial roles, with at least five of these at senior levels
  • Experience in leading high performing teams, including demonstrated ability to motivate and coach staff
  • Ability to operate strategically and develop trust and credibility quickly with senior management
  • Comprehensive commercial background supplemented by strong experience in a centralised procurement environment
  • Experienced in leading high risk/high value procurement projects of a complex nature
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster good stakeholder relationships through consultation and partnership
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and in plain language
  • Proven ability to maintain a strategic focus but able to enter into detail when required
  • Demonstrated ability to persuade and influence people and make hard decisions
  • Demonstrated drive and ability to improve own capability, including self-awareness and self-improvement focus
