Facility Cleaner - Waihopai (part time) at Government Communications Security Bureau, Nelson - Marlborough

We are looking for a reliable, detail‑oriented Facility Cleaner to keep our site and facilities at a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene. Your work will help create a safe, pleasant environment for all staff in line with health & safety standards and industry best practice.

This is a part‑time, permanent position working 0.6 FTE across Monday – Friday. While this is working between core business hours, we offer flexible start and finish times within agreed limits to help you balance work and life.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform daily cleaning tasks to a high standard (office areas, meeting rooms, hallways and passages, toilets, bathrooms, showers, kitchens and kitchenettes, service corridors, workshops, technical spaces, foyers and porches.
  • Track and restock cleaning supplies, hygiene items, kitchen provisions, and first‑aid items, ensuring timely re‑orders.
  • Manage waste, recycling and hazardous material handling in line with health & safety guidelines.
  • Identify and report maintenance issues, damage or security concerns to facilities management.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with the ability to liaise with a range of people.

What you bring:

  • Proven cleaning experience in a domestic, commercial or light‑industrial setting.
  • Ability to plan and deliver comprehensive cleaning and hygiene services.
  • Sound knowledge of health & safety practices, including HAZCHEM handling.
  • First aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Before you apply

Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.

You must:

  • Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years

OR

Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years

  • Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
    • Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
