Principal Adviser Training and Design - Rehabilitation Programmes at Ara Poutama Aotearoa (Department of Corrections), Wellington (Te Whanganui a Tara)

Mō te tūnga | About the role

A key part of our efforts to reduce reoffending is our suite of medium intensity therapeutic programmes [Medium Intensity Rehabilitation Programme, Short Rehabilitation Programme for Men or Women, Kōwhiritanga]. These are delivered throughout New Zealand both in prisons and in the community. They are carefully designed to be effective and are delivered by trained internal programme facilitators. The Rehabilitation Programmes team also oversees the Mauri Tū Pae and Non-violence Programmes which are delivered by contracted providers. This role sits within the Office of the Chief Psychologist, Pae Ora, reporting to the Manager Rehabilitation Programmes who oversees a multidisciplinary team. This is a National Office role with a preference for Wellington based candidates.

 

Mōu | About you

This is a unique opportunity to make a difference in uplifting culturally responsive practice and assisting to create a high level of integrity within the delivery of internal offence focussed rehabilitation programmes. This role has a primary focus around the delivery, design and review of Frontline Pathway training for Programme Facilitators and Psychologists. In addition, there will be opportunities to develop ongoing training opportunities for experienced Programme Facilitators. You will have the ability to work with a large range of stakeholders across the motu and will have an integral role in applying a culturally responsive framework to training and design. You will also contribute to the wider Psychology & Programmes team at national level.

 

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Experience in providing rehabilitation programmes to people who have offended.
  • Experience in delivering and designing effective training, which includes giving feedback to learners.
  • Understanding of Te Ao Māori/Tikanga Māori and culturally responsive practice.
  • Commitment to contributing to the outcomes of Hōkai Rangi.
  • Sound clinical knowledge of group practice.
  • Ability to lead projects and deliver on strategic goals.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sound judgement and problem-solving skills.
  • Available for Travel.
  • Supervision of group practice an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the evidence-based approach to Corrections' rehabilitation.
  • Minimum of Master's degree in Psychology or equivalent and registration as a Psychologist with the NZ Psychologist's Board.

 

Ngā painga | The benefits

The full salary range is $136,747 - $148,429 per annum. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
