Senior Advisor - Health Promotion - NPHS at Te Whatu Ora, All Locations

About the Role

We have a fixed term opportunity available to join our Health Promotion team as a Senior Advisor Nutrition and Physical Activity.

The primary purpose of the role is to design, develop, enable, evaluate health promotion programmes, strategies, policies, interventions and initiatives that address the determinants of health and wellbeing. You will lead the implementation and achievement of best practice health promotion by planning, implementing and co-ordinating activities nationally with regional health promoters and leaders.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

About you

You are someone able to demonstrate mature communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to write and present effectively, and to develop, unify and maintain strong internal and external relationships essential for achieving sustainable outcomes. You have experience in working to improve healthy food environments and previous experience in an advisory role.

Skills and Experience

  • A relevant tertiary qualification, and a minimum of four years' experience or, 7+ years' appropriate equivalent experience
  • Having a dietetic qualification or nutritionist registration would be beneficial
  • A good understanding of the ability to work in a culturally and ethically safe way with a range of communities and stakeholders
  • Experience, knowledge and skills in relation to working with Māori and Pacific peoples/communities/stakeholders
  • Proven relationship management and influencing skills
  • Experience, in the design and managed a project of work and resources
  • Professionalism, including effective inter-personal communication, teamwork, accountability, self-management, time and risk management
  • Strong analytical skills combined with an ability to quickly assimilate new information, and to write and talk about complex issues clearly and concisely with a range of audiences
  • Developing knowledge and skills to deal effectively with complex and politically sensitive situations or topics
  • With the support of Health NZ, you will proactively take care of your own health and safety, to ensure a safe and supportive work environment
