About the Role

The NSOC Intermediate Security Analyst plays a key role in supporting Health New Zealand's cybersecurity operations by providing technical expertise, analysis, documentation, and incident response. This position is responsible for triaging and responding to security alerts and incidents generated by the enterprise SOC/SIEM platform, ensuring that potential cyber threats are identified, managed, and mitigated before they can escalate into significant incidents.

About the Team/Service/ Location

As part of the National Cyber Security function, Cyber Security Analysts within the Security Operations Centre provide essential threat detection, Incident response, proactive security measures, compliance adherence, incident investigation, knowledge sharing, collaboration, and contribution to building a trustworthy reputation. Their expertise and activities are vital in safeguarding Health New Zealand's systems, patient data, and assets. 

Security Analysts also work with the wider security team to perform tests and uncover areas of improvement, contribute to the development and continuous improvement of processes, tools and frameworks within the team. You will be a Technical champion for doing security ‘the right way', including working and assisting IT teams to apply the right level of security. 

About you

As an experienced Security Analyst, you will bring adaptability, strong time management, and excellent communication skills to the role. You thrive in dynamic environments, work well both independently and as part of a team, and are proactive in identifying and addressing security risks. You will also have the following skills and experiences that will help you to succeed in the role:

  • Minimum 3 years experience in Security Operations using contemporary Microsoft security tools or similar enterprise SOC/SIEM and EDR solutions
  • Experience with the creation of analytics and/or automation.
  • Experience with a broad range of security technologies, such as SIEM, firewalls, networking, system administration and scripting.
  • Experience managing incidents within SOC/SIEM and EDR solutions
  • Demonstrable knowledge of cyber security practices in a hybrid environment of on-premise, SaaS, and cloud services, preferably in an operation and/or incident management role.
  • Demonstrable success in the identification and mitigation of network vulnerabilities.
