About the Role

We have a permanent, full-time opportunity available to join our Heath Protection directorate as a Senior Advisor, Communicable Disease, reporting into the Manager Communicable Disease. This role is critical in enabling the delivery of the NPHS strategic agenda for Pae Ora (Healthy Futures).  The Senior Advisor role will support the development of high-quality advice to manage communicable diseases drawing on technical advice and project leadership and support.

The NPHS within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

About you

Your expertise lies in providing direction and support to achieve organisational priorities and delivering complex and contentious pieces of work. You have experience and knowledge of communicable diseases and can lead work and engage strategically with stakeholders, advocating and challenging to ensure the work aligns with obligations set across the health sector. • Knowledge of the health system, risk management, and management in complex environments
• Ability to draw on relevant longer-term experience specific to the job and work demands, acquired over time
• Experience in an advisory role, applying critical thinking and using sound judgement to develop options and provide well-informed advice
• Some leadership experience, such as designing and managing projects, including oversight of work and resources
• Understanding of kawa and tikanga and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi & some experience working in partnership with iwi & Māori communities
• Tertiary qualification in a health or relevant field and/or equivalent experience
