Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
- Permanent, full-time role based in our Te Manawa Taki region.
- Lead regional health analytics and shape the future of healthcare in Aotearoa.
- Be part of a nationally significant transformation and influence outcomes for millions.
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.
We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations — from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.
Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.
About the Role
In this important role, you will provide senior leadership of health analytics insights across the region and nationally for specific initiatives. You will develop and deliver a responsive, high-quality analytical insights service, aligned to national strategy and approaches.
You will be responsible for leading a “team of teams” with analytics staff spread across the region, together supporting health service planning, improvement and performance monitoring. Your teams will contribute to better, more equitable health outcomes by providing actionable insights, exposing variation and identifying areas of opportunity. You will develop and implement a strategy to create a regionally connected analytics service in close collaboration with health service delivery leaders, clinicians and data and digital colleagues.
You will understand data pipelines sufficiently to diagnose issues and work closely with data management teams to solve problems.
You will lead talented teams through change, champion advanced analytical methods (including AI, machine learning and predictive modelling), and ensure health intelligence meaningfully supports clinicians, leaders, external agencies and communities. A key focus of the role is building trusted relationships, promoting data literacy, and enabling easy, appropriate access to insights that improve health outcomes for all.
About you
As a senior analytics and people leader, you will bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. statistics, analytics, computer science, public health) or equivalent senior leadership experience
- At least 10 years' experience leading health analytics teams at a senior level
- Strong understanding of health sector data, systems and healthcare delivery environments
- Track record in delivering and supporting change, diagnosing and solving problems, performance development, and collaborating effectively at senior levels in complex environments.
- Highly developed communication skills with the ability to translate complex insights for non-technical audiences
- You will also demonstrate inclusive leadership, financial acumen, and a strong commitment to equity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and culturally safe practice.
