About the Role
The Senior Analyst contributes to the Health Planning & Insights team's work by providing a wide range of health insights information, and analysis to support national and regional teams in the commissioning of primary and community services. The Health Planning & Insights team contributes early to service design and development to ensure analytical requirements are well-informed and interpreted correctly.
You will provide health insights that inform decision-makers to evaluate the effectiveness of services and support improved health outcomes. This includes:
- Exploring and analysing a range of data sources (internal and external to Health NZ) to understand trends and gain insights to inform strategic goals.
- Undertaking analytics that describe the health status of populations, the current state of services delivered, met and unmet needs, and contribute to future health.
About you
To be successful in this role, the following capabilities are essential:
- A relevant graduate and post-graduate qualification in statistics, health sciences or other relevant area, or a minimum of three years working experience.
- Expertise in scoping, extracting, analysing, forecasting, and presenting health or investment insights
- Strong grounding in quantitative statistical methods, frameworks, and analytical techniques
- High proficiency with BI and analytical tools, such as Power BI, SQL, Excel, or R
- Ability to translate analytical findings into clear, compelling narratives with a strong pre‑equity focus
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in self‑directed and cross‑functional teams
- Experience mentoring or overseeing junior analysts
- Comfort operating in ambiguity, with the flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities
