About the Role
Join us as a Senior Analyst in the Improvement and Performance team and help shape how public health insights are delivered across Aotearoa. You'll lead improvements in how we measure quality, set baselines, and strengthen good analytical practice across our analyst community.
In this role, you'll work closely with others to understand their needs, solve problems, and turn complex information into practical, people‑centred solutions. You bring a strong sense of what high‑quality analytical products and services look like, and you enjoy collaborating across teams to lift the consistency, clarity, and usefulness of our insights. Experience with design thinking, systems thinking, service design, or human‑centred design is a bonus.
You'll provide expert advice, carry out analysis and interpretation, and develop clear, evidence‑based recommendations that support fair, informed decision‑making. You'll also contribute to key programmes and projects, helping deliver reliable, meaningful public health intelligence that makes a real difference for communities and whānau across Aotearoa.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The NPHS within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
About you
You care about using data and insights to improve health outcomes and reduce inequities across Aotearoa. You bring curiosity, compassion, and sound analytical judgement to your mahi, and you're motivated by work that supports fair, accessible, people‑centred services.
You work well with others - listening to their needs, understanding their context, and creating insights that genuinely support better decisions for communities and whānau. You communicate clearly, value diverse perspectives, and take pride in producing high‑quality, transparent analysis grounded in equity.
You'll be well suited to this role if you have:
- A relevant graduate or postgraduate qualification (e.g. public health, psychology, informatics, quality improvement) or equivalent experience
- Three to five years' experience applying analytical, research, or evaluation methods to understand problems, improve outcomes, and support evidence-based decisions
- You deliver innovative, forward‑looking solutions and analytical products that draw on best practice, are customer‑focused, and are clearly and professionally presented
- The ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible insights and advice for different audiences, including those without technical backgrounds
- Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action
