Quality Lead - Radiology at Te Whatu Ora, All Locations

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

  • Permanent, full-time position based in Auckland (preferable) or Wellington.
  • Champion a consistent, high-quality approach to radiology services nationwide.
  • Influence system change that improves safety, access and equity.

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.

We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations — from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.

Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.

About the Role

As the Quality Lead – Radiology, you will play a pivotal national role in strengthening and standardising quality improvement and assurance processes across radiology services and with external providers. You will lead the coordination, development and ongoing refresh of a National Radiology Quality Improvement Plan, ensuring quality resources and initiatives are aligned, effective and focused on equitable outcomes.

You will work closely with regional and district radiology services, national clinical governance and patient safety teams, and the National Radiology Clinical Network to identify key quality challenges and opportunities. A core focus of the role is reducing duplication, improving consistency and promoting collaboration across services, while fostering a strong culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

You will also provide national leadership for the IANZ accreditation programme for radiology services, acting as a key liaison point between Health New Zealand and IANZ, supporting services to achieve and maintain accreditation, and ensuring risks and issues are visible and managed. You will lead work to identify and implement opportunities for standardisation of policies, guidelines and operating practices, and advocate for quality improvement initiatives at a national level.

This role operates at the intersection of clinical practice, quality systems and system reform, and offers a unique opportunity to influence how radiology services are delivered across the country.

About you

You are an experienced quality or service improvement leader with a strong background in radiology or diagnostic services and a genuine commitment to improving patient safety and outcomes.

You will bring:

  • A relevant graduate and/or post-graduate qualification in a clinical, health or quality improvement field
  • Experience as a quality manager (or equivalent) within a radiology service, including achieving or maintaining IANZ accreditation
  • A strong understanding of how radiology services operate clinically and within the wider health system
  • Proven experience in service or project management, ideally in clinical or health service development
  • The ability to analyse complex systems and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Strong influencing, relationship management and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of process improvement methodologies and data systems used in radiology
  • Demonstrated experience implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action and advancing Māori health equity

Ideally, you will also have experience in health or quality management qualifications, project management training, and familiarity with radiology information systems and reporting.

You bring sound judgement, curiosity and resilience, along with a collaborative style and a strong personal drive to improve quality and equity in health care.
