About the Role
The Manager Project Delivery role sits in the Major Projects team in the Protection Directorate of the National Public Health Service (NPHS).
We are seeing a leader to join our team in this pivotal role. You will be instrumental in shaping the business and technological environment for our projects to succeed. Your work will significantly impact public health outcomes across New Zealand and help to ensure that our new systems enable equitable outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Enabling teams to translate operational needs into practical national solutions that deliver measurable benefits across the organisation
- Empowering delivery and troubleshooting day-to-day challenges
- Engaging with complex stakeholder groups and senior leaders to build shared understanding and resolve challenges as they occur
- Coordinating and influencing cross-functional teams (digital, operations and wider stakeholders) to achieve outcomes regardless of formal reporting lines
- Supporting and mentoring colleagues to celebrate successes, remove blockers, and build capability across the team
- Being the trusted point of contact for the wider team
About the Team/Service/ Location
The NPHS within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
About you

Essential skills you will bring:
- Strong Public Health knowledge with the ability to apply it to operational delivery at scale
- Proven ability to convert operational problems into practical, deliverable solutions at a national level
- Be comfortable making and owning decisions, and able to gather enough context before acting
- Confidence in stakeholder management at all levels, including engaging directly with directors and senior leaders
- Experience leading to drive equitable outcomes grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles
- Experience influencing cross-team outcomes
- Project management and people leadership experience or a desire to learn and grow this skillset (these skills will be supported and developed by the hiring manager)
Good understanding and/or previous experience in applying critical thinking using sound judgement to develop and inform options for a health in all policies approach alongside the machinery of government.
