National Manager - Major Projects, System Enablers and Engagement - NPHS at Te Whatu Ora, All Locations

  • Lead nationally significant prevention screening initiatives and major projects, driving system-wide impact and improved health outcomes
  • Establish and lead a national Project Management Office (PMO) to strengthen delivery, partnership, and consistency across complex programmes
  • Provide strategic leadership, financial oversight, and stakeholder engagement to ensure successful delivery aligned to national priorities

About the Role

The National Manager – Major Projects, System Enablers and Engagement role provides leadership and national oversight to enable the successful development and delivery of NPHS Prevention Screening's major projects and new screening initiatives.  You will be responsible for establishing and leading the Prevention Screening Project Management Office (PMO) to strengthen regional partnership, Hospital and Specialist Services (HSS) collaboration, and ensure robust financial oversight and contract coordination across prevention screening programmes.

About you

You are an experienced and strategic programme leader with a proven ability to deliver complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives at a national or system level, bringing a strong balance of strategic thinking and hands-on delivery in dynamic public sector or health environments. You are confident navigating complexity, influencing stakeholders, and providing sound advice grounded in critical thinking and an understanding of how government operates. You build trusted relationships, communicate clearly and persuasively, and are committed to embedding Te Tiriti o Waitangi into your work, while leading teams in a collaborative and inclusive way.

  • Relevant tertiary and project/programme management qualifications (additional experience in public health or financial management is advantageous)
  • Proven experience delivering complex programmes using recognised project and programme management methodologies
  • Strong public sector or health background, including financial oversight, funding, and contract coordination
  • Ability to develop options, provide advice, and apply sound judgement in complex environments
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and drive change
  • Strategic thinker who can translate vision into effective operational delivery
  • Adaptable, politically aware, and comfortable working with ambiguity and competing priorities
