• Provide senior clinical leadership for a pioneering Lung Screening Mobile Pilot, helping improve health outcomes through earlier detection of lung cancer.
• Work with primary care, clinical and operational leaders to shape equitable screening pathways and support the delivery of a nationally significant programme.
• Fixed-term opportunity (0.4 FTE) for 12 months, with the flexibility to be based anywhere in New Zealand

About the Role

Working within the National Public Health Service's Prevention team, in partnership with the Health Gain Development function within Planning, Funding and Outcomes, you will provide specialist clinical leadership and advice to support the implementation of the Lung Screening Mobile Pilot.

As Clinical Advisor (Primary Care), you will contribute to the development of clinical standards, pathways, guidelines, quality measures and operational processes that support safe, effective and equitable screening delivery. Working closely with clinicians, primary care providers, operational teams and technical experts, you will help ensure clinical pathways, participant management approaches and follow-up processes are practical, evidence-based and aligned with primary care models of care, supporting continuity of care and strong clinical governance.

About the Project

The Lung Screening Mobile Pilot is a nationally significant initiative that will help shape the future of lung cancer screening in Aotearoa New Zealand. Building on the learnings from The Lung Cancer Screening Research Programme. The pilot has been established to test and refine the feasibility, effectiveness, and equity of mobile screening delivery. Operating across the Hawke's Bay and Lakes districts, the programme will bring screening closer to communities, improve access to early detection, and support better health outcomes through the identification of lung cancers at an earlier, more treatable stage.

About you

You are an experienced clinician with a strong understanding of primary care and a passion for improving health outcomes through prevention and early intervention. You bring sound clinical judgement, a collaborative approach, and the ability to work effectively across a wide range of stakeholders to support the delivery of a complex, nationally significant health initiative. You are committed to equity, quality improvement, and applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in practice, while helping shape services that deliver better outcomes for Māori, Pacific peoples, and communities across Aotearoa.

You will bring:

• Current registration as a Medical Practitioner with a valid Annual Practising Certificate.
• Experience in general practice or a strong understanding of primary care systems and models of care.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex clinical information for a range of audiences.
• Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
• Experience developing or contributing to clinical standards, guidelines, frameworks, or governance processes.
• A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and advancing equitable health outcomes for Māori and Pacific communities.
• The ability to manage competing priorities, think strategically, and deliver high-quality outcomes in a complex environment.
