About the Role

As the Gender Surgery Health Navigator, you will provide compassionate, individualised support to people accessing publicly funded gender affirming genital surgery through Health New Zealand's National Specialist Services. Acting as a key point of contact, you will guide patients and whānau through their surgical journey, helping them navigate health and social services, prepare for specialist assessment and surgery, and coordinate aftercare support. Working closely with the surgeon, multidisciplinary teams and healthcare providers, you will play a vital role in improving patient experience, promoting equitable access to care, and supporting positive health outcomes for transgender and non-binary people across Aotearoa New Zealand.

About the Service

The National Clinical Leadership team comprises the National Clinical Chiefs, Pacific Health, National Clinical Networks, Quality and Patient Safety, Safe Staffing Healthy Workplaces and the Resident Doctor Support Services teams.  This role is located in the Clinical Leadership Office, who provide support across the wider team in the areas of government services, executive and board level requirements (including reporting), project and programme management and oversight of the team's wider work programme. 

About you

You will be a compassionate and highly organised professional who can build trusted relationships and support people through complex healthcare journeys. With strong communication skills, sound judgement and a commitment to equity, you'll work collaboratively with patients, whānau and healthcare providers to deliver person-centred support and positive outcomes.

You will bring:

• Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to engage sensitively with diverse communities
• Experience working in health, social services, community support or a related environment
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload while maintaining accurate records
• A commitment to equity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and inclusive service delivery
• Knowledge of, or experience engaging with, transgender and non-binary communities would be highly regarded.
