About the Role
As a Digital Workspace Engineer, you will be responsible for deploying, configuring and maintaining digital services to support reliable, secure and efficient day-to-day IT operations. You will troubleshoot technical issues, manage incidents, implement technical solutions and help ensure services remain available, stable and compliant with technical standards. Working at a technical delivery level, you will apply your expertise to resolve operational challenges, minimise downtime and optimise system performance while supporting the ongoing delivery of high-quality digital services.
You will work closely with senior engineers, technical colleagues, project teams and technology vendors to implement solutions that meet business needs and technical requirements. You will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to simplify processes, adopt new technologies and strengthen digital service performance. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, risk management and service improvement, with the flexibility to support incidents, project go-lives and on-call requirements when needed.
About the Team/Service/ Location
You will be part of the Digital Operations team within Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, working collaboratively with technical specialists, delivery teams, clinical and operational stakeholders, and wider Digital Services colleagues. You will support system users across clinical and operational environments, working alongside senior leaders and technology partners to resolve incidents, manage technical issues and maintain reliable digital services. The team works across national, regional and local operations to deliver consistent, effective and fit-for-purpose technology solutions.

About you
You will be an IT professional with hands-on experience in technical support, service deployment, configuration and troubleshooting. You will have the ability to investigate and resolve technical issues, manage incidents and support the implementation of reliable digital solutions. You will bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound technical judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high standard of service. You will be comfortable working independently within established guidelines while collaborating with senior engineers and other technical specialists to deliver effective outcomes.
You will also be a customer-focused and proactive team member who communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences. You will demonstrate initiative, accountability and a commitment to continuous learning, innovation and improving service delivery. You will understand the importance of risk management, information and system reliability, and maintaining a secure working environment. You will also demonstrate an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to contributing to equitable outcomes, building positive working relationships and supporting the wider goals of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora.
You will bring:
- Relevant IT experience: Approximately 1–3 years of experience deploying, configuring and maintaining digital or IT services, alongside the stated minimum five years of experience providing day-to-day technical support to end users and/or IT systems.
- Technical support and troubleshooting: Demonstrated ability to investigate and resolve technical issues, manage incidents and support the implementation of IT solutions.
- IT service deployment: Experience deploying and configuring complex IT solutions, maintaining service availability and stability, and supporting reliable day-to-day operations.
- Relevant qualifications: A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent qualification. A relevant postgraduate certificate would also be beneficial.
- IT service management knowledge: Familiarity with service management practices, technical standards, processes and tools. ITIL or other relevant service management certifications are desirable.
- Analytical and organisational skills: Strong problem-solving, risk assessment, prioritisation and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing demands and deliver work to agreed deadlines.
- Communication and collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships, work across technical teams and share knowledge with colleagues.
- Continuous improvement and accountability: A proactive, customer-focused approach, with a commitment to innovation, professional development, health and safety, and the practical application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles
