The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Te Whatu Ora, works towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
The Major Projects team within the Protection Directorate will be leading a series of projects the aim to bring together and support health protection services across the new National Public Health Service. This will initially involve both establishing unifying technology and aligning our ways of working in partnership with our stakeholders to implement nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored services.
Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
As a Change Manager within the Major Projects team, you will be focused on driving and managing changes aimed at improving our ‘ways of working' for the health protection delivery and alignment as we roll out new approaches and technologies and develop the National Public Health Service. This will mean that you will be:
- you lead the Protection Major Projects change processes across local, regional and national public health functions
- Ensure that the sector is part of the process not just a recipient of it!
- Plan, develop and deliver our multi factor change programme both within our service and are key partners
- Provide the thought leadership across the small but high function change and engagement team
- mentoring, guiding and supporting the projects teams in your specific area of expertise

You have proven experience in leading and managing teams. You're able to think, plan, and contribute strategically and to connect with people to build an engaged and productive workforce. You have an understanding of kawa and tikanga and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi & some experience working in partnership with iwi & Māori communities. Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- A relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent experience
- Strong project management experience, including leading cross-functional teams, developing project plans, and delivering projects on time and within budget
- 7+ years' experience in change management roles or similar
- Proficiency in change management methodologies and best practices, such as Prosci, ADKAR, or similar models
- Strong leadership qualities, including the ability to motivate and guide teams through the challenges of change
- Proficiency in data analysis to assess the effectiveness of change initiatives and make data-driven decisions for improvement
- Experienced in working in a multi-project environment where the relationships are equally as important as delivering the mahi
