A Corrections Officer is one of those opportunities. As a Corrections Officer you will join a dedicated and supportive team managing the well-being, and health and safety of the people we manage. We have opportunities available at all of our three sites across Tamaki Makaurau:
Mt Eden Corrections Facility (MECF)
MECF is a male Remand facility housing 11 per cent of the national prisoner population, Not only is it Aotearoa's largest remand facility it is also the busiest for prisoner movements. It is based in Auckland's CBD.
Auckland Region Women's Corrections Facility (ARWCF)
Situated in Wiri, we recognise the women we manage have different needs to men therefore we have set an approach that will give our women the care, treatment, encouragement, counselling, skills and support required to shape better futures for themselves, their children and their families.
Located in Paremoremo, on the North Shore, Auckland Prison accommodates approx. 680 male prisoners and is New Zealand's only specialist facility for maximum and high security prisoners.
About the role | Mō te tūnga
If you like a role with structure and routine as well as the flexibility to make a difference, then this is absolutely the role for you! Correction Officers spend much of their time working in their unit(s) with offenders and can have a huge impact on influencing change through their day-to-day interactions.
Working rostered shifts (across a 24/7 pattern including weekends and public holidays), you will work in a variety of areas within the prison carrying out the daily routines relevant to that unit. You will lock and unlock offenders, escort them to work training, education programmes, the health centre and outside the prison to and from Court.

Along with your unique skills and perspective we also need you to have the following:
- Current and full non-conditional New Zealand driver licence (International Licenses must be converted prior to employment)
- Legally able to work fulltime in New Zealand (work visa must have a remaining period of minimum 24 months)
- Ability to commit to working rostered shifts across a Monday-Sunday 24-hour rota
Pre-employment checks are also required and include: Drug test, full disclosure criminal conviction check (Clean Slate Act does not apply), a physical fitness assessment and reference checks.
We provide full training which involves an initial 11 week in-house and online schedule. Then on-going professional practice and development support along with a clear pathway to progression.
Utu ā-tau | Salary
The starting salary is $54,793 and increases to $57,432 after you graduate from the initial training.
