About the role | Mō te tūnga
Prison industries provides the people in our care valuable work experience and skills as well as meaningful engagement during their time with us. They are an important part of working towards reintegration and can increase chances of obtaining successful employment on release. Our Industries Teams are also critical in providing essential services, such as catering and laundry, for the successful operation of the site.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Principal Instructor to lead a team of dedicated Instructors across Trade & Industries, in the diverse and rewarding environment at Auckland Regional Womens Corrections Facility, ARWCF.

We are looking for someone with proven leadership and relationship skills, a high degree of integrity and resilience along with the flexibility to get in and support their team, someone who will do the right thing, make the hard calls when required and work with key stakeholders including commercial partners to deliver positive outcomes for the wahine in our care.
Hands on experience, skills and knowledge within Trades & Industries (Asset maintenance, Horticulture, Grounds Management) would be valuable, however not essential, as your role requires you to lead work organisation for the team, delegate tasks and provide support, training and guidance.
To be successful in the role you will also be able to demonstrate the following:
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Relevant industry experience and qualifications would be an advantage but are not essential
- Experience in an adult learning or training environment would be advantage as you will oversee the training and qualifications of wahine in our care
- The ability to think critically and be innovative is a must.
The starting salary for a Principal Instructor is circa $80k per annum.
