About the Role

• Gain ICU exposure at an introductory level.  SHO positions in both NSH, PICU and CVICU can count as your foundation term prior to entering the CICM training programme

About the Team/Service/ Location

• NSH is a busy general ICU allows an opportunity to gain exposure to the field of critical care, whilst being well supported by a welcoming and friendly team of specialists, registrars, nurses and allied health workers.
• CVICU provide care to patients following cardiothoracic and vascular surgery and heart and lung transplantation. Also, after cardiology patients requiring intensive care, as well as all patients in New Zealand who require mechanical cardiac and respiratory support
• SSH PICU is a combined cardiac and general ICU providing tertiary level care to children from around New Zealand. Great exposure to a variety of patients and critical care therapies in a supportive environment.

About you

•  Required experience: 24 months completed House Officer runs
• Preferred: some exposure to acute care and a commitment to ICM training

•       Interviews held: Wednesday 16 July 2025 & Thursday 17 July 2025
•       Offers to successful applicants: Monday 18 August 2025

Please note:

• Both the NSH, CVICU and PICU run is only for a 6 months duration. Should you be appointed for the first 6 months of the year (from January), you will need to make plans for the following 6 months (from July). It is expected that (subject to satisfactory performance) SHOs will progress into either their first ICM registrar position, or in selected circumstances, into an Anaesthesia SHO position. Candidates wishing to do this will need to apply for these positions at the same time as your SHO application, and progression would be subject to these applications being successful. Should you be appointed for the second 6 months (from July), you will need to make plans for what you would do for the first 6 months of the year.
