About the Role

The Clinical Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting safe and effective healthcare delivery through the repair, maintenance, and servicing of surgical instruments and other medical devices across Te Toka Tumai hospitals. This is a hands-on precision engineering role, primarily focused on working with small, intricate surgical instruments rather than large machinery, making it ideal for qualified tradespeople who enjoy detailed technical work and problem-solving in a specialised healthcare environment. The role is primarily based at Auckland City Hospital, with occasional travel to other local sites.

Key responsibilities include:

• Service, maintain, repair, and refurbish surgical instruments.
• Ensure medical devices are safe, fit for purpose, and compliant with relevant standards.
• Provide technical support for clinical equipment across hospital sites.
• Respond to equipment-related issues as part of the Clinical Engineering team.
• Contribute to the delivery of high-quality Clinical Engineering services that support patient care.

About the Team/Service 

The Procurement, Supply Chain and Health Technology (PSC&HTM) team at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora are a national function with a vast and complex scope. They play a critical role in ensuring the availability, safety, and efficiency of clinical and non-clinical goods and services across the health system. Responsible for managing and influencing over $9 billion in annual spend, the team are central to delivering high-quality patient outcomes and standardising product usage across regions.  

About you

You are a trade-qualified technician or engineering professional with strong practical skills and a customer-focused approach. You enjoy working in a collaborative environment, take pride in delivering high-quality work, and are committed to ensuring clinical equipment and surgical instruments are safe, reliable, and fit for purpose. This is a role that is suitable qualified Fitter & Turners, Toolmakers, or applicants with equivalent trade qualifications.

You will bring:

• Relevant trade, diploma, degree, or equivalent technical qualification and experience
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Excellent organisation, attention to detail, and accurate record-keeping skills
• A positive, customer-focused approach, with integrity and the ability to build strong working relationships
• A current full New Zealand driver licence, good physical fitness, and the ability to work in a hospital environment and bicultural setting
