About the Role

The primary purpose of this role is to provide high-quality and pragmatic public sector commercial legal advice to Health NZ. This involves delivering clear, practical solutions that align with the organisation's objectives while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and other requirements such as the Government Procurement Rules. By offering strategic guidance, the role helps Health NZ navigate complex legal matters, mitigate risks, and make informed decisions that support its overarching commitments and targets.

About the Team

The Health New Zealand legal team (which includes the Corporate & Commercial legal team) has offices across New Zealand, supporting the operational work of our hospitals and community services. However, this role is required to be based at the Corporate & Commercial legal team's Manukau office location. We are a collaborative and collegial team united by a commitment to support quality health services and outcomes for all New Zealand's populations. Our work is broad-ranging and critically important including work on significant, and major procurement, commissioning, data & digital, and commercial matters. This work is fundamental to achieving the kaupapa of our organisation.

About you

• Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action.
• A tertiary qualification in Law.
• Qualified and with a current practising certificate as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.
• At least eight years post qualification experience, ideally with some experience in an in-house public sector legal environment.
• Public sector commercial legal experience across a range of areas, including contract law, ICT contracting, and public sector procurement.
