About the Role
We are looking for a dynamic and dedicated senior nursing leader to provide support, direction, and guidance to our Regional NPHS teams. This is a key public health senior nursing leadership role that provides professional and operational oversight to our regional nursing and communicable disease teams. The role is central to delivering high-quality, safe, and equitable nursing services across the motu, grounded in the values of Te Mauri o Rongo, Pae Ora, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
The Regional Nurse Manager will:
- Provide visible, effective, and culturally grounded nursing leadership
- Lead clinical service strategy and design, in partnership with clinical/multi-disciplinary and operational leaders
- Ensure high standards of patient care, quality, safety, and equity
- Lead and develop a large multidisciplinary workforce working across the Northern region (up to 80 FTE)
Direct reports are Charge Nurse Managers and various other Senior Nurse roles. Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and culturally safe practice. Support emergency management and outbreak response through CIMS leadership. Build strong relationships across NPHS, Hauora Māori Services, Pacific Health, and sector partners to realise equitable health outcomes for Māori, Pacific, disabled communities, and other priority populations.

You will be joining a passionate and committed Public Health Nursing Team that is committed to serving whanau and tamariki in the communities we serve. We are dedicated and driven to achieve Pae Ora (healthy futures for all) by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
About you
You understand the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and are skilled in applying its principles effectively in your role. You are a senior experienced nurse leader with expertise to advise, direct and develop the nursing workforce. You work well across multi-disciplinary teams with a collaborative and inclusive communication manner. You have a keen eye for detail and proven experience in policy and protocol writing. You are committed to continuous improvement and look for opportunities to elevate and maintain nursing standards of practice. You will be a compassionate and dedicated leader who is comfortable leading through change.
- Minimum 5 years nursing experience in a speciality practice area Senior Nurse Level of practice
- Previous Charge Nurse experience
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to the professional development of nursing staff
- Previous experience in applying critical thinking, using sound judgment to develop options and knowledge of the machinery of government, and policy development, is preferable
- Project management experience
- Demonstrable understanding of kawa and tikanga and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi & some experience working in partnership with iwi & Māori communities
