Digital Facilities Engineer at Te Whatu Ora, Auckland

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

  • Auckland Based, covering the Northern Region
  • Permanent, Full-time

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the role

As a Digital Facilities Engineer, you'll play a hands-on role in deploying, configuring, and maintaining the systems that keep essential services running smoothly—from network environments to power, HVAC, security, and monitoring systems. Working alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional teams, you'll troubleshoot complex issues, support project delivery, and ensure operational stability, security, and compliance. This is a role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes ownership of outcomes, and is driven to continuously improve performance while reducing downtime and risk.

We're looking for a proactive problem-solver with strong technical insight, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering reliable, high-quality service. You'll contribute to national initiatives focused on simplification, transformation, and smarter ways of working, while supporting a culture grounded in collaboration, innovation, and equity. Beyond technical expertise, you'll bring a customer-focused mindset, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a willingness to mentor others and share knowledge. If you're motivated to make a meaningful difference—supporting resilient digital infrastructure while contributing to equitable outcomes and safer, healthier environments—this is your opportunity to step forward.

You will be required to participate in an on-call roster and perform after-hours work when necessary. The role also requires the ability to travel to and support all locations within the Northern Region with the possibility of national travel.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our team sits within a nationally connected Digital Operations function, responsible for ensuring the performance, reliability, and resilience of critical digital facility services across healthcare environments. You'll be part of a technically focused, collaborative team based in the Northern Region in Auckland that works closely with engineers, project teams, vendors, and clinical and operational stakeholders to support the delivery and ongoing operation of essential infrastructure. The environment is dynamic and fast-paced, where coordination, clear communication, and technical expertise are key to maintaining systems that underpin day-to-day service delivery.

In this role, you'll be embedded in the operational heartbeat of the organisation, supporting the implementation and maintenance of core systems including network infrastructure, power, UPS, HVAC, CRAC units, security, and monitoring platforms. The team works across both planned project work and reactive support, requiring strong troubleshooting capability and the ability to prioritise effectively. You'll gain exposure to a wide range of technologies and environments, with opportunities to contribute to service improvements, optimise performance, and support the delivery of reliable, secure, and efficient digital facility operations.

About you

You're an emerging ICT professional with a solid technical foundation and a practical, hands-on approach to problem solving. Comfortable working across both operational support and project environments, you bring experience in deploying and maintaining IT services, troubleshooting complex issues, and ensuring systems remain stable, secure, and efficient. You're someone who takes ownership, works well under pressure, and communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. With a strong sense of accountability and a drive to continuously improve, you contribute positively to team outcomes while building your own capability. You understand the importance of working within a broader health context, applying sound judgement, maintaining high professional standards, and supporting safe, effective service delivery.

What we are looking for

  • 1–3 years' experience deploying, configuring, and maintaining ICT or digital services
  • At least 5 years' experience providing day-to-day technical support across IT systems and/or end-users
  • Experience working in and managing services and infrastructure within Data Centres and Communications Rooms.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot, resolve incidents, and support implementation of complex technical solutions
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Basic understanding of power and UPS systems.
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g. digital infrastructure, networking systems)
  • Familiarity with IT service management frameworks (e.g. ITIL certification desirable)
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build effective working relationships across diverse stakeholders
  • Must have a full driver's licence and the ability to drive manual van
