About the Role
This role leads the development and delivery of regional prevention programmes, ensuring alignment with national priorities while responding to local community needs. You will drive the implementation of immunisation, screening, and wider prevention initiatives, establishing effective regional ways of working and delivering programmes that improve population health outcomes.
Working closely with national teams, primary care, and community partners, you will champion equity-focused approaches and build strong, collaborative relationships across the system. You will also support continuous improvement, innovation, and contribute to public health leadership, including playing a key role in emergency response when required.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The NPHS within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
About you
You are an experienced and collaborative leader with a strong background in public health or prevention programmes. You bring a strategic mindset, coupled with the ability to translate priorities into practical delivery, and are confident working across complex systems to influence outcomes and drive meaningful change.
- Proven experience leading programmes or projects, ideally within public health, prevention, or population health
- Strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a demonstrated commitment to achieving equity in health outcomes
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships across diverse stakeholders and communities
- Experience driving innovation, continuous improvement, and service change
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity
