Senior Health Analyst - Planning, Funding & Outcomes at Te Whatu Ora, Auckland

About the Role

In this senior role, you'll provide high-quality analytics advice and insights to Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora directorates, with a particular focus supporting Starship Child Health, along with key external stakeholders. 

Working in a fast-paced and highly visible environment, you'll lead complex analysis and reporting that supports organisational priorities. Your ability to turn complex data into meaningful insights will directly support evidence-based decision-making and contribute to improving health outcomes. You will contribute to an organisation that actively prioritises equity while upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.  You will have an iterative and pragmatic approach, with the confidence to test ideas, seek feedback early, and refine outputs to meet user needs.

You'll work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs, develop customer-focused reporting solutions, and provide trusted advice on health service activity and performance. This role offers the opportunity to influence strategic direction, lead business intelligence initiatives, and contribute to continuous improvement across systems, tools, and reporting frameworks.

As a senior member of the team, you'll also provide leadership across projects, have the opportunity to mentor colleagues, contribute to quality assurance processes, and help foster a collaborative, high-performing environment.

About the Team/Service

You'll join a collaborative and forward-thinking team that delivers trusted analytics, reporting, and performance insights to leaders and stakeholders across the health system. The team plays an important role in supporting strategic decision-making and providing transparent, evidence-based information to both internal and external audiences.

About you

You are highly experienced analytics professional with a strong strategic mindset and a passion for using data to drive better outcomes. You thrive in complex environments, can confidently engage with senior stakeholders, and can communicate insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

You will bring:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in business analysis, business insights, data science, statistics or a related field
  • 7-10 years' experience in analytics, reporting or business intelligence roles within large and complex organisations
  • A strong understanding of analytics principles and how data can create business and customer value
  • Advanced experience using tools such as Power BI, Qlik and Excel
  • Expertise in data visualisation, dashboard development, data modelling and integrating complex datasets
  • Experience gathering business requirements and transforming them into practical reporting and analytical solutions
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and provide evidence-based advice
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the confidence to present and defend recommendations
  • Experience mentoring or supporting the development of others within the team.
