Asset & Project Accountant at Te Whatu Ora, Auckland

About the Role

As an Asset & Project Accountant, you'll support the financial accounting, reporting, and analysis of the organisation's fixed assets, and capital projects across Health New Zealand. Working closely with the Northern Region Asset team, Capital Planning and Reporting Manager, project managers, and finance teams, you'll help ensure project expenditure is accurately captured, balance sheet reconciliations completed, assets capitalised, and revaluations processed promptly.

This is a varied and detail-focused role where you'll review and analyse project costs, , and ensure assets are correctly capitalised in line with financial policies and reporting standards. You'll prepare reconciliations, journals, and reporting schedules, while also supporting audit processes and maintaining robust controls across project and asset accounting activities. Alongside this, you'll work collaboratively with stakeholders across the organisation to provide financial insights, support continuous improvement initiatives, and help strengthen financial governance and reporting practices across capital investment projects.

About you

As an Asset & Project Accountant, you'll bring strong financial acumen, attention to detail, and the ability to build effective working relationships across a complex organisation. You will also have: 

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in finance, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least three years' experience in project accounting or asset accounting, ideally within a corporate or public sector environment.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting processes, reconciliations, and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and support project stakeholders.
