Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
The Pacific Public Health directorate is a new function in the National Public Health Service designed to support and enable the wider National Public Health Service and Te Whatu Ora to succeed and empower Pacific Communities. The Directorate also works in collaboration with Te Whatu Ora's Pacific Health Group and Public Health Agency's Pacific health team.
The Pacific Regional Advisor is a navigator of Pacific specific protocol and approaches for the Regional Directorate. Led by the Pacific Regional Lead, you will advance the Pacific Public Health work programme within the Regional Directorate and support a strong partnership between both Directorates for the benefit of Pacific staff in the Regional Directorate.

You will support Pacific public health approaches, and cultural protocols in the region that enables Pacific communities to realise their well-being aspirations.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- A relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience
- Needs to draw on relevant longer-term experience specific to the job and work demands, acquired over time– 3-5 years
- Previous experience in applying critical thinking, using sound judgment to develop options and knowledge of the machinery of government, and policy development, is preferable.
- Understanding of Pacific cultural protocols and language and experience working in partnership with Pacific communities
- Understanding of, and commitment to, the specific relationship under te Tiriti o Waitangi, and Te Whatu Ora's role in improving outcomes for Pacific communities

- A commitment to being a good Te Tiriti partner in all your actions. This includes an understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the ability to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in this role
- Competency with Pacific cultural protocols, and one or more Pacific languages or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
