Senior Regulatory Advisor at Education Review Office, Auckland

Ko mātou | About us 

We are the Education Review Office | Te Tari Arotake Mātauranga (ERO), the New Zealand government's external evaluation agency that informs and facilitates improvement in schools/kura and early learning services.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About the role 

In this role you will provide expert advice and lead or contribute to regulatory activity across licensing, certification, complaints, incidents and enforcement. 
You will work across complex and sometimes sensitive matters, ensuring decisions are robust, proportionate and well-evidenced. 

Key aspects of the role include: 

  • Providing high-quality advice and recommendations on complex or contentious regulatory matters 
  • Assessing complaints, incidents and licensing issues and determining appropriate responses 
  • Leading or contributing to investigations of non-compliance, including analysing evidence and applying regulatory tools 
  • Partnering closely with review, licensing and legal teams to support joined-up regulatory activity 
  • Developing guidance, tools and processes to support consistency and continuous improvement 
  • Communicating decisions and outcomes clearly to stakeholders 

This is a varied and impactful role where your judgement, analysis and ability to navigate complexity will directly contribute to fair, consistent and evidence-based regulatory decisions. 

Mōhou ake | About you 

We are looking for someone who can operate with confidence in a complex regulatory environment and bring strong professional judgement to decision-making. 

You will have: 

  • Demonstrated experience in regulatory, compliance, investigation, or advisory roles 
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risk, interpret evidence and make sound decisions 
  • Experience working with legislation, policy and regulatory frameworks 
  • The ability to manage complex or sensitive issues with professionalism and integrity 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across multiple teams
