Occupational Therapist - Adult Inpatient MH Unit at Bay of Plenty District Health Board (Tauranga/Whakatane), Bay of Plenty
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
We have a full-time permanent position available for a dynamic Occupational Therapist to join our Adult Inpatient Mental Health Unit in Whakatāne Hospital.
We are looking for an experienced NZ registered clinician who is passionate about working alongside people in their recovery journey and motivated to contribute to innovative and culturally-effective acute mental health care.
You will be joining a committed team during an important period of change with the design and build of a new inpatient unit facility, and as such an exciting opportunity to contribute to the new model of care. As the sole Occupational Therapist, you will be required to design and coordinate a therapeutic group program, while working collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team to provide therapy and support discharge planning. Responsibilities will include functional assessments, psycho-education, delivering an effective Sensory Modulation programme, as well as playing a key role within the Zero Seclusion project team.
Part of this position will include the development of an outreach role to support transitions from the ward, working in partnership with Community Mental Health colleagues and other providers to ensure continuity of care. There is a 0.2 FTE allocation to provide this, and it will be expected to be delivered across the working week.
This will be an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys using their initiative, working autonomously, and well as being able to quickly build partnerships, maintain effective communication, and an ability to demonstrate strong clinical reasoning are essential.
We would encourage applications from Occupational Therapists with a proven experience in acute psychiatry but would also welcome those with a genuine desire to promote recovery, a history of working in partnership with Tangata Whaiora, and a commitment to continued service improvement.
Our values of Compassion, All-one-team, Responsive and Excellence are at the centre of everything we do. We are looking for someone who demonstrates, exudes and embeds behaviours consistent with our Manaakitanga values as well as the above skills and experience.
The BOPDHB are committed to improving Māori health outcomes and achieving health equity for Māori through Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations. It is essential you demonstrate an awareness of Māori indigenous rights and current issues in relation to health and health equity.
All applications are to be made online.
