This is a fantastic opportunity for trainees with a minimum of 6 months paediatric experience to gain valuable experience in both General Paediatrics and Neonatology. This role may also be suitable for advanced trainees in specialties needing paediatric experience such as Emergency Medicine or Anaesthesia. The role offers the chance to work within a dynamic and supportive team, while developing a broad skill set in acute paediatric care. The positions are accredited for Basic Training in General Paediatrics by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), making it ideal for those advancing their paediatric training.

About the Role

As a Paediatric Registrar, you will work in a busy and supportive department, gaining first-hand experience in managing acute paediatric cases. You will have the opportunity to work across various clinical settings, including a 22-bed general paediatric ward and a 12-bed Level 2 neonatal unit. The registrar positions are accredited for up to two years of Basic Paediatric Training by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. You will be part of an eight-person roster, including day shifts, long days, evenings, and nights, with a 1:8 frequency. 

Registrars also have the chance to supervise house officers (SHOs) and contribute to the active education programme. This is a fantastic opportunity for those looking to build a comprehensive foundation in paediatrics.

About the Team/Service

The Paediatric Department at Tauranga Hospital is made up of 14 SMOs, two fellows, 8 registrars and 8 Senior House Officers . The department offers a range of paediatric care, including inpatient care, outpatient clinics, and neonatal services. This is a supportive environment where registrars have the opportunity to develop their skills while working closely with senior consultants.

About you

As a Paediatric Registrar, you will be a motivated individual with at least six months of paediatric experience. Previous neonatal experience is desirable, but not essential. You will be comfortable working in a busy hospital setting and managing a range of paediatric presentations. In addition to clinical duties, you will play an active role in educating and mentoring house officers. A strong commitment to patient care and ongoing professional development is essential, as you will be encouraged to participate in educational opportunities to advance your training.
