About the Role

As a Surgical Registrar at Tauranga Hospital, you will play an integral role in the management of general surgical patients, alongside a team of skilled consultants and registrars. You'll have the chance to build upon your surgical knowledge and experience while participating in acute general surgery on call duties, maintaining surgical skills like laparotomies, bowel resections, and cholecystectomies. You'll also provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff and contribute to the education of house officers and medical students.

This role offers a 12-month run period with a 13-week rotation at Whakatāne Hospital for non-training registrars, ensuring exposure to a broad range of cases and a rich learning environment. The position is accredited for training by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

About the Team/Service

Our Department of Surgery consists of 12 Senior Medical Officers (SMOs), 4 trainee registrars, 11 non-trainee registrars, and a Breast Fellow. With a well-established, supportive environment, we foster both personal and professional growth while managing a diverse range of surgical conditions.

About you

As a Surgical Registrar, you will bring experience in general surgery with a strong commitment to expanding your skills in both acute and elective surgery. You will have the ability to manage a broad spectrum of surgical cases, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and demonstrating leadership in the teaching and mentoring of junior staff. A strong communicator, you will thrive in a collaborative environment while taking responsibility for patient care. To be successful, you will meet the requirements set by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and be eligible to work in New Zealand.
