About the Role
As an Emergency Medicine Registrar at Whakatāne Hospital, you will work in a smaller, yet dynamic and high-functioning ED that serves a rural and diverse population across the Eastern Bay of Plenty. The role includes clinical shifts rostered alongside experienced SMOs, non-clinical development days, and 1:4 weekend coverage. This position is accredited for 12 months of training with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM).
You will be exposed to a broad spectrum of presentations with the added challenge of rural medicine. This role also offers a great lifestyle balance with opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and contribute to community-centred healthcare.
About the Team/Service
Te Ahuru O Ruhuaariki (Whakatāne Emergency Department) is a dedicated, collaborative, and culturally aware team serving a large rural catchment. We are committed to delivering culturally safe care and upholding our Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations. We value equity, compassion, teamwork, and clinical excellence.
About you
You will be a committed Emergency Medicine trainee who thrives in a smaller, more personal hospital setting. You'll bring enthusiasm for rural emergency medicine, a desire to work closely with your SMO colleagues, and an awareness of the health challenges and inequities Māori communities face. You will align with our values of Compassion, All-One-Team, Responsive, and Excellence, and bring a collaborative spirit to our team.
