About the Role
Bay of Plenty Hauora a Toi are looking for an experienced and inspiring Midwife Manager to join Ko Matariki Maternity Unit based at Whakatāne hospital in a full-time, permanent position working 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week).
This is a pivotal leadership role for someone who is ready to step forward with vision, clarity, and commitment. You will oversee the operational delivery of safe, evidence-informed maternity care, guiding your team to provide the highest standard of service for māmā, pēpi, and whānau across the Eastern Bay of Plenty. From managing day-to-day service delivery to nurturing new talent and shaping clinical direction, your work will leave a lasting impact on our people and our community.

About the Team/Service/ Location
Based in the beautiful Eastern Bay of Plenty, Ko Matariki Maternity Unit provides antenatal, birthing, and postnatal care in a fast-paced, team-led environment. We are committed to culturally safe, equitable care and have a strong track record of supporting midwifery development across the region. The service is backed by a passionate team of midwives, nurses, educators, and support staff who work together with purpose and pride.

About you
You are a confident, values-driven leader who brings calm to complexity and energy to a team. You have a heart for midwifery, a head for operational excellence, and the humility to listen, support, and grow alongside others. Along with a professional demeanour and high level of personal integrity.
What you will bring:
- New Zealand Registered Midwife with a current Annual Practicing Certificate.
- 5 + years of midwifery experience in a secondary care or similar setting.
- Proven experience in midwifery leadership, coordination, or management.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead, support, and influence across all levels.
- A strong belief in collaboration, cultural safety, and partnership with women/wāhine and whānau.
- Confidence in driving service improvement and navigating change.
- An understanding of leadership, ethics, and business in a clinical context.
