About the Role

Ready to take your critical care expertise to a system-wide level?  We are looking for two experienced Clinical Nurse Specialists to join the Intensive Care Service at Tauranga Hospital.  This part-time role working 0.5 FTE (20 hours per week) is ideal for senior nurses with a background in ICU or HDU who are ready to lead early clinical intervention across a diverse inpatient setting.

Operating 24/7, the ICU Outreach team provides rapid response and clinical expertise across adult, paediatric, maternity, and mental health wards.  The role involves identifying and managing deteriorating patients, support medical emergency responses, and offering education and guidance to the wider nursing and multidisciplinary teams.

With 12-hour shifts – including weekends and nights, flexibility is essential.  In return, you will gain exposure to high-acuity presentations, work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, and directly contribute to improving patient outcomes and service development.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our ICU Outreach Service has been supporting ward-based care for over two years, becoming a trusted and essential resource across Tauranga Hospital.  You will join a respected team of clinicians committed to safe escalation, critical decision making, and system-wide clinical excellence.  All this in the stunning Bay of Plenty – where professional opportunity meets beachside living.

About you

To be successful in the role, you will be a calm, confident practitioner with a high level of critical thinking and a commitment to proactive, patient-focused care.  Supporting deteriorating patients and mentoring other staff brings out your leadership strengths, and you thrive in high-pressure situations.

What you will bring:

  • Current New Zealand Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Significant experience in critical care (ICU/HDU/acute response settings).
  • Advanced clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to educate, mentor, and collaborate across services.
  • Flexibility to work 12-hour shifts including nights and weekends.
