Specialty Clinical Nurse - ICU Outreach Service at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty, Bay of Plenty

About the Role

Step into a pivotal role as a Specialty Clinical Nurse within our established Intensive Care Outreach Service.  This part-time position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with a strong background in critical care and a passion for supporting clinically deteriorating patients across inpatient services.

Operating as a rapid-response senior nurse, you will provide early intervention for adult, paediatric, maternity, and mental health patients – ensuring timely clinical input, education, and support across the hospital.  Working closely with ICU, medical, nursing, and Allied Health teams, this role offers the opportunity to expand your advanced clinical skillset and play a key role in improving outcomes for our most vulnerable patients.

This service operates 24/7, with 12-hour rotating shifts including nights and weekends.  Flexibility and collaboration are key.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The ICU Outreach Service is a cornerstone of our critical care approach, working alongside frontline teams to recognise and respond to patient deterioration early.  You will be based at Tauranga Hospital, Bay of Plenty – Hauora a Toi.  Our Outreach Service has been running successfully for over two years and is embedded in hospital-wide patient safety and education initiatives.  Expect a strong team culture, highly skilled colleagues, and a shared commitment to quality, responsiveness, and excellence.

About you

You are a confident and calm Registered Nurse who thrives in dynamic, high-pressure environments.  You bring critical thinking, clinical credibility, and a compassionate approach to every interaction.  With a passion for patient safety and service improvement, you are also a natural educator who empowers others to act early and escalate concerns appropriately.

What you will bring: 

  • Current NZNC registration and Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Extensive recent experience in critical care nursing
  • Clinical credibility and leadership in acute/ICU settings
  • Strong decision making and collaborating skills
  • Commitment to safe, responsive, and equitable care across services
  • Willingness to contribute to service development and education
