Clinical Nurse Specialist - Tauranga - NPHS at Te Whatu Ora, Bay of Plenty

About the Role

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will utilise your specialist nursing knowledge and nursing judgment to apply whānau-centred, holistic, innovative nursing care to meet the needs of patients, whānau and communities. 

You will provide specialist nursing expertise and leadership into the core functions of health protection, including case and contact management, outbreak investigation and control, and prevention. Work with the multidisciplinary Compliance and Health Protection team in response to communicable diseases and a number of other areas that may impact the health of communities. Alongside the team, you will work in partnership with whanau and communities to uphold our obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention.  While this position is with the Bay of Plenty/Rotorua team, we are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

About you

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you'll be able to work collaboratively across the sector and organisational boundaries to influence the nursing contribution to better outcomes for our whānau and communities. Ideally you will have:

  • A current RN Practicing Certificate with the Nursing Council of New Zealand
  • At least three years of experience and expertise in the areas of public health, communicable diseases, contact tracing and vaccinations
  • A post-graduate qualification (or working towards) within the specific speciality
  • Achieved expert level of practice on the RN Professional Development and Recognition Programme (or completing) and progressed (or will progress within the next 12 months) to the Senior Nurse Pathway
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Current driver's license
  • Proficient computer literacy in Microsoft packages and other databases
  • Working knowledge of Treaty of Waitangi and its application to practice.
