Our Audit and Assurance (A&A) team plays a vital role in strengthening trust, transparency, and quality across our organisation and the wider health sector. We're looking for a Senior Auditor for the Provider Audit Team who thrives in complex environments, builds strong relationships, and brings a solutions-focused mindset to every engagement.

About the Role

As a Senior Auditor, you'll lead audit planning and delivery for audits of contracted health providers across Aotearoa, supervise contractors, mentor junior staff, review audit reports, and use advanced analytical skills to identify issues, assess risk, and recommend improvements. You'll communicate findings clearly, work collaboratively with Health NZ and external partners, and support follow‑up audits to ensure risks are effectively addressed.

You will help strengthen systems, improve processes, and build capability across our national organisation. You will audit NGO providers to assess service efficiency and performance, and ensure processes are in place that align with HNZ expectations, leading practice, Health & Disability Services Standards, and any new or existing legislation. You will also assess whether the services provided meet the needs of Māori.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have the following:

• Minimum of 5 years' NGO auditing experience.
• Audit experience in a medium-to-large complex organisation or government agency.
• Experience in leading all aspects of the audit process, from terms of reference through to final report preparation and submission.
• Experience in mentoring and supporting the professional development of less experienced team members.
• An understanding of Tiriti o Waitangi and working in a bicultural team. 
• Ability to travel frequently for on-site audits.
• Current, clean driving licence.

Desired

While candidates from a range of audit backgrounds are encouraged to apply, individuals with experience in the New Zealand health sector with an understanding of health contracts, funding, compliance and performance would be advantageous, as well as:

• Have solid experience in one or more of the following specialist areas:
  • Clinical or healthcare audit.
  • Hauora Māori or Pacific provider environments.
  • Risk management: frameworks, processes, reporting.
• Proficient in whaikōrero or Te reo Māori.
• Health practitioner or registered nurse with a current APC.
