He Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
Are you interested in working with tamariki / children (working with children aged 0-12 years). and their whānau – making a difference in their lives and future wellbeing? We are looking for an experienced Registered Mental Health Professional who has a sound understanding of Child Development to join our Tauranga Child Mental Health Service.
In this role you will be working at the front end of the service as an intake clinician for children / tamariki and their families / whānau, alongside experienced team members.
The role consists of:
- Managing day-to-day routine referrals while also responding and prioritising new cases requiring acute response
- Conducting telephone and face to face assessments with the child and whānau
- Completing therapeutic coaching through family distresses
- Being part of a multidisciplinary team, who contribute together to making decisions that are best for the child and whānau.
The Tauranga Child Mental Health team works with children aged 0-12 years old, the multidisciplinary team is made up of Nurses, Social workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Psychotherapists and Psychiatrists. The team culture is nurturing, and supportive of active learning, both practically and academically. We are solution focused, working in collaboration with our Paediatric Colleagues, Child Development Service, Child Health Integrated Response Pathway (CHIRP) and our community.
This is an exciting time to join this team as we are forming an integrated approach to meet the community's needs. Our team is committed to implementing high standard models of therapeutic treatment, as well as the necessary training and ongoing supervision that such pathways require.
This is a permanent, full-time position; however, we have flexible FTE and are open to applications from candidates looking for 0.8 – 1.0 FTE (32-40 hours per week).

He Kōrero mōu - About You
The preferred candidate would be passionate and committed to providing Tangata Whai Ora focused care. The ability to work as an effective team member and demonstrate strong communication is essential to this position. You will need to have a calm and empathic approach, flexibility, and creativity in your care approach.
To be successful in this role you will be a Registered Mental Health Professional who has experience and skills working with clients and whānau between the ages of 0 - 12 years. You will have experience and knowledge around family systems along with a broad range of challenges, difficulties and distress associated with children and young people presenting acutely.
You will also need:
- Registered, or be eligible to register with the relevant registration board (Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, or Psychotherapist)
- Current Annual Practising Certificate
- Mental Health included in your Scope of Practice
