Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand, Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty is spread across a vast geographical area and centred across two hospitals based in Tauranga and Whakatāne. We serve a population of approximately 308,000 for the major population centres of Tauranga, Katikati, Te Puke, Whakatāne, Kawerau and Ōpōtiki. Te Whatu Ora Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty is one of the Bay of Plenty's largest employers with over 4000 staff.
He kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
The Paediatric Department offers four Paediatric Senior House Officer positions. These roles are intended for those with little or no Paediatric experience. The role is accredited for Basic training in Paediatrics by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. SHO's work day shifts, long days and weekends, but no night shifts. Senior House Officers are on duty with a Registrar at all times.
The Paediatric Department is a busy supportive department of 12 SMO's and 2 Fellows on the consultant roster, and 8 Registrar's on the Registrar roster.(Please see separate advertisement if interested in a Registrar role). The role provides an excellent opportunity to gain first-hand experience in managing a wide range of Acute and elective Paediatric presentations, in both General Paediatrics and Neonatology. We have a 22 bed General Paediatric ward, a 4 bed daystay unit, and a 12 bed level 2 SCBU. The role would suit candidates looking to start a career in Paediatrics, as well as those interested in gaining Paediatric experience relevant to General Practice.
All positions are based at Tauranga Hospital and the run period is for six or 12 months, with six months often providing enough experience to begin work as a Paediatric Registrar.
