About the Role
As a Finance Partner – Commissioning, you will be a trusted strategic advisor providing financial and commercial insight to support Commissioning Life Course Management. In this role, you'll work closely with operational leaders to translate complex financial data into meaningful analysis, helping shape investment decisions, service planning, budgeting, forecasting, and contract performance management.
A typical day will see you leading month-end processes, analysing expenditure trends, preparing forecasts, and partnering with commissioning and procurement teams to ensure financial sustainability and accountability. You'll conduct deep-dive analysis to uncover performance drivers, support business cases and funding proposals, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen financial systems and reporting. This is an opportunity to influence decision-making at a regional level while contributing to equitable health outcomes across Aotearoa.
About the Team
The Regional Planning, Funding and Outcomes Finance and Contracting team provides strategic financial leadership and operational financial management across commissioning and service delivery portfolios. The team works in close partnership with commissioning, Hauora Māori Services, Pacific Health, and nationally operating finance functions to ensure consistent, high-quality financial management and reporting. The Team is based in Te Manawa Taki region, covering five districts -Tairawhiti, Bay of Plenty, Lakes, Waikato and Taranaki. You must be based in one of these locations within Health New Zealand's Te Manawa Taki region.
About you
As a Finance Partner, you bring strong analytical capability, commercial acumen, and the confidence to influence and support senior stakeholders in a large and complex organisation. You are motivated by turning financial insights into actionable decisions that improve service delivery and drive organisational performance.
- Qualified & Experienced – Tertiary accounting/finance qualification with 5+ years in financial management, preferably in large public or healthcare organisations.
- Financial Expertise – Skilled in budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial modelling.
- Technical Proficiency – Experienced with ERP/financial systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.), reporting tools, and process automation.
- Commercial & Strategic Thinking – Provides actionable insights, supports business cases, and assesses financial viability for informed decision-making.
- Communication & Collaboration – Confident presenting complex financial information and building strong relationships across teams and functions.
- Equity & Te Tiriti Focused – Applies Te Tiriti principles and supports Māori and Pacific health equity in financial planning and decision-making.
- Leadership & Improvement Mindset – Mentors staff, drives efficiency, and champions innovation in finance processes and reporting.
