Mō tēnei tūrangi mahi | About the roles

We are looking for a number of experienced Senior and Analysts to lead and support our exciting and impactful Climate Change work programmes. 

You will get to work on some hot policy issues such as: 

  • Implementing key actions of the Emissions Reduction and National Adaptation Plans
  • Working to enhance the Emissions Trading Scheme
  • Development of a framework for managed retreat
  • Exploring financial market and institutional arrangements to support the transition to a low emissions economy
  • Developing a voluntary carbon market
  • Contributing to efforts to complement domestic climate mitigation with access to offshore mitigation

You will work closely and collaboratively with teams in the Climate Change Directorate, but also have a strong outward facing focus too, particularly with iwi/Māori, central government agencies, local government, industry groups and the private sector. 

As a Senior you will also provide coordination and technical leadership for projects and have the opportunity to mentor junior members of the team to build their capability.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience 

We are looking for people with experience in policy development and implementation who can deliver quality work in a fast-paced environment.  As a Senior, you will be recognised as an expert in policy processes.  

You will have a collaborative approach, strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to quickly build credibility and trust across diverse groups.  

You will also bring a mixture of the following: 

  • a background in climate change policy advice or regulatory policy advice
  • experience providing policy advice to senior leaders and Ministers
  • ability to lead complex cross-governmental policy development and/or implementation programmes
  • strong communication skills with the ability to deliver insights to technical and non-technical audiences
  • have an understanding of the interests of iwi/Māori in relation to particular policy issues
  • economic analysis skills
  • knowledge of resource management/planning
  • an agile approach, with a desire to make a difference 
  • comfortable dealing with ambiguity and embrace complexity and the ability to think creatively
  • commitment to developing your cultural capability and capacity in te ao Māori.

Salary ranges: 

Policy Analyst: $73,280 to $89,565 pa

Senior Policy Analyst: $101,802 to $124,424 pa

Appointment within these ranges will be based on skills and experience.
