Does contributing to the recovery of ecosystems and threatened flora and fauna excite you? If so, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for! The Takaka District Office (Mohua) is looking for an enthusiastic Senior Ranger to join our team and support our work programme.
The Takaka District Biodiversity team manages diverse landscapes and natural communities in North-West Nelson. Covering two National Parks and a range of other important protected landscapes the Takaka District is involved in extensive pest control and trapping networks, a host of threatened flora and fauna work, and emergency work such as whale strandings.
Key senior ranger responsibilities include:
- Monthly work planning
- Thirdly reporting
- Financial management
- Producing Task Assignments
- Business Planning
- Supporting Operations Manager in decision-making
Your role will be to support the district's varied work programmes, including:
- Animal pest control (baiting and trapping)
- Restoration of threatened ecosystems including weed control and revegetation
- Threatened fauna and flora management
- Biosecurity and compliance work
- Assisting any other emergency work such as fire control and whale strandings

If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:
- Experience with some or all of DOC Senior Ranger responsibilities above
- Work autonomously, take direction and communicate effectively
- Proficient with Microsoft programmes such as Word, Outlook and Excel
- Proficient with mobile phone apps and GPS
- Full New Zealand driver's licence
Desirable
- GIS skills (ArcGIS and DOCgis)
- Experience working with whānau, hapū, iwi to support kaitiakitanga
- Experience with and understanding of ecological restoration and species management
- Biosecurity knowledge
- Growsafe certificate
- 4WD qualifications and experience
- First aid certificate
Mō te tīma | About the team
The Takaka District team is made up of 26 permanent staff working across Heritage and Visitor, Biodiversity and Community. The team increases to approximately 30-35 over the summer period to meet the work demands. You will report to the Operations Manager and work alongside 3 other Senior Rangers.

The salary range for this position is $73,336 to $93,708 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
