Te Papa Atawhai's fleet does not just include vehicles, it also includes boats, trailers, trucks, diggers, lawnmowers, side by side LUVs and small plant like chainsaws and scrub bars. These assets are dispersed throughout Aotearoa, including many of our islands, thus the Fleet team are required to think creatively about how they supply service to ensure our DOC teams can undertake their important work throughout the country.
He angitūtanga | About the role
Boats are an important part of DOCs fleet and we are looking to ensure that the lifecycle of these vessels are managed effectively and proactively. You'll act as a trusted advisor to the business and be focussed on:
- Overseeing the management and maintenance of our vessel fleet, nationwide.
- Ensuring fleet asset database information is up to date and accurate
- Being across maritime rules, regulation and audit requirements and understand how these apply to our current processes and procedures
- Working alongside our site based staff in regards to purchasing, accidents, break downs, repairs and business cases for new fleet items.
- Managing new fleet items from project concept and thinking differently about fleet usage through business case compilation, tender, purchase, and logistics of delivery
- Overseeing lease management, GPS tracking systems and being involved in the financial management and reporting of fleet services.
As this role has oversight of the fleet across the country, some travel may be required.

If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:
- Strong knowledge of maritime regulations, Maritime Transport Operator Plans and understands what it takes to operate a fleet of vessels under the Maritime Operator Safety System.
- Previous experience in asset and/or maintenance management.
- You will thrive being part of a hard-working team who enjoys being innovative and working together to get a job done.
- Understand the importance of having health and safety systems and operating procedures and may have been involved in authoring of these.
- You will have a clear and engaging communication style and the ability to build strong relationships and collaborate successfully with others, such as other Te Papa Atawhai teams and external suppliers.
- Your ability to write cohesive businesses cases and work with systems and technical information will be something you pride yourself on.
- Commercial and financial acumen.
- Proactive, inquisitive and creative mindset.
- You will have a continuous improvement mindset geared to challenge the status quo.

The salary range for this position is $89,757 - $110,005 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
