He angitūtanga | About the role
We have an exciting, newly created role aimed at overseeing the delivery of low to medium size maintenance funding and projects to ensure that the Department's recreational assets remain fit for purpose. This incredibly varied work supports the whole Northern South Island region on projects alongside our existing local teams as well as co-ordinating contractors where required. This position will also work collaboratively with Senior Rangers Heritage and Visitors in the region, the Senior Visitor Advisor and Supervisors to develop a strategic work program that they can then deliver.
The position will be focussed on:
- Carrying out work at place aimed at maintaining or improving the condition of recreation assets. This could include:
- undertaking hands-on visitor maintenance work
- supporting baseline recording of visitor assets
- undertaking audits and inventory & data management.
- Providing support to the Senior Rangers Heritage and Visitors and Senior Visitor Advisor with the scoping, planning, and delivery of heritage projects. This could include:
- leading the delivery of funded visitor projects including contractor management, working with consultants, tracking project deliverables and budgets
- scoping potential future visitor projects, developing business cases and applying for funding
- working with community groups that want to undertake visitor work
- Hhelp develop & deliver visitor training initiatives.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working autonomously and can create and maintain effective relationships. If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:
- Knowledge and/or practical skills in recreation management practices & techniques.
- Project and contractor management experience.
- Ability to lead the development of detailed strategic work plans.
- Creative problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and oral communication abilities.
- An ability to understand and communicate technical information clearly
- Experience with procurement processes and systems
- Tech savvy skills and drive to learn new systems, including the ability to use computer databases and information systems. Existing knowledge of SAP advantageous.
- Strong focus and knowledge of Health and Safety, especially contractor management.
- Proven expertise in relationship management and stakeholder influence, including working with Māori and iwi communities.
- Full New Zealand driver's licence.
Desirable:
- Relevant tertiary qualification or experience in the construction industry.
- 4WD and experience working around helicopters.

The salary range for this position is $68,535 to $86,423 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
