Job Description

This is a unique opportunity for someone with a great skill set and a genuine interest in the conservation effort on the wonderful Kermadec Islands.

The Whangarei District covers the area from Russell Forest in the north, to Mangawhai Wildlife Refuge to the south, and includes the Kermadec Island group to the north of New Zealand. The position and the Whangarei Team is based in Raumanga, Whangarei.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who will manage the Raoul Island conservation program and other islands in the Kermadec group.

You will actively lead the Raoul Island work programme including:

  • Annual recruitment of temporary staff for Raoul Island including coordination of pre-deployment training
  • Day to day management of the Raoul team's safety and wellbeing during their deployment on the island
  • Management and coordination of re-supply trips to Raoul Island
  • Development and oversight of the annual work program on Raoul Island
  • Management of ongoing infrastructure maintenance on Raoul Island
  • Maintenance of strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

To be successful in this role you will have experience in leading staff and in organising complex logistical operations. Strong relationship management skills are essential.

Ideally you will have experience in practical management and delivering biodiversity projects at remote sites. Also given the nature of this work, experience in risk assessment and management would be an advantage.

The successful applicant must have a full driver's licence and the ability to travel to Raoul Island for two-week periods on island re-supply trips.

Check out the Information Sheet for more information.

Please apply online.  Applications must include a cover letter, CV and evidence of the required capabilities as per the project description.

For any queries, please contact Paul Rennie or Shana Harding, or telephone 09 470 3300, quoting vacancy 400/1470

Applications close 5pm on Monday, 27th November 2017.
