Job Description

Do you have a desire to work outdoors in one of the most beautiful environments in the world? We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our Recreation/Historic Team in and around the Fiordland National Park over the 2019/2020 summer season.

These roles operate on a rostered pattern of 8 days on and 6 days off (Tues-Tues) assisting with the day to day running of the self-registration campsites, day sites, short walks and amenity areas to ensure that these facilities are maintained to a high standard for our visitors.

A typical day will involve driving between various DOC sites, campground compliance (ensuring all visitors have successfully registered at the kiosks and providing mobile EFTPOS or cash change as required), road compliance (ensuring that freedom campers are not where they shouldn't be), cleaning of facilities and routine maintenance tasks such as; grass cutting, vegetation clearing (weed whacking) and minor repairs to structures. Training for all of the above will be provided to the successful candidate.

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • An outgoing personality with excellent people skills
  • The ability to live & work in relatively isolated environments where there is no cell phone or internet coverage available for the 8 day period you would be rostered on.
  • The ability to get necessary jobs done with a minimum of fuss
  • A team player attitude
  • The ability to work to a plan
  • The ability to conduct yourself professionally during high pressure situations
  • A current full Driver's License.

A vehicle and accommodation will be provided for you at either Lake Mavora or Knobbs Flat whilst you are rostered on & applicants must be available to complete the full period of employment which will conclude on the 1st of May 2020.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.

Please apply online via the DOC Careers Centre.  Applications must include a CV, cover letter outlining why you would like this position and a completed Field Experience Questionnaire.

Due to the nature of this position successful applicants will also be required to complete a Pre-Employment Occupational Health Questionnaire.

For more information please contact Andrew Gibbs at agibbs@doc.govt.nz, or telephone (027) 204 8390

Applications close at 5pm on Thursday, 14 November 2019.
