This is a temporary position to cover parental leave for 12 months. Should the incumbent resign during this time the position will become permanent.

This is an exciting role where you have an opportunity to lead the Rakiura Operations team and significantly contribute to conservation.

The role is to ensure the effective integrated delivery of high quality conservation outputs and provide specialist knowledge and support on local conservation activities to the Director, Operations.

As well as strong conservation management skills and experience, this role requires a ‘people leader' who is skilled at inspiring, motivating and directing teams and who can shape a culture which values continuous improvement, team process, partnerships with iwi, and working with community, business and others.   As such, there is a strong relationship management component to this role so ability to build and maintain strong collaborative relationships internally and externally will be needed to achieve goals.

As DOC has a focus on the health and safety of its staff and visitors to conservation sites, this role will also be charged with creating a strong safety-first environment, ensuring there is a positive safety culture and consistent safety practice across all work sites.
